Motivation to pursue a graduate degree

I was inspired to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy in Higher Education by the many individuals who impacted me throughout my collegiate journey. Whether it was faculty, staff, or upperclassmen, I always felt seen, supported, and poured into. As I reflected on my own experiences and the direction I wanted to take my career, I felt a deep passion to become that same beacon of light for future students—just as others were for me. Visibility in higher education is essential, and my mission is to serve as a source of encouragement, inspiring everyone I encounter to pursue their dreams relentlessly.

Importance and/or impact of research and work

My research interests focus on student engagement, particularly through co-curricular involvement. I aim to examine how student organizations, mentorship programs, and leadership initiatives contribute to the holistic development of students, preparing them for post-graduate success, career readiness, and leadership. I plan to explore the specific skills and experiences students gain through co-curricular participation and how such involvement shapes their personal, professional, and leadership development.

Advice for anyone considering graduate school

The advice I would share with anyone considering graduate school is to constantly revisit your “why.” This will be your source of encouragement to continue on when it feels impossible. Along this journey, you will face disappointments, hardships, and unexpected obstacles, but we must not be defeated. Rest if you must but never quit.

Accomplishments during graduate career

I am currently serving as a Graduate Assistant at the Leadership Learning Research Center. With a deep passion for leadership development, I am honored to work alongside the exceptional faculty at the center, helping to provide students at Florida State University with knowledge and guidance on leadership identity and development.

Career aspirations

I aspire to serve as a senior leader in the higher education field, providing equitable access to resources for students and shaping the paths of talented individuals so they can go forth and make meaningful contributions to their communities.
