Why FSU?

I choose to attend FSU to pursue a graduate degree as the three main pillars of Florida State University's Higher Education program align with my career aspirations. The three main pillars are Student Success, Leadership and Social Justice.   These will be crucial in helping me throughout the higher education program and prepare me for opportunities ranging from career mobility and advancement.

Motivation to pursue a graduate degree

I wanted to pursue a graduate degree to gain career advancement and have deeper knowledge in a specific field.  I also desired research opportunities and the opportunity graduate school provided for personal growth.  Lastly, I know that pursuing this degree will help me fulfill my academic and career aspirations.

Importance and/or impact of research and work

My research will focus on barriers that Under Represented Minorities (URMs) have to overcome when gaining admission into Research 1 universities.  This is important work that may lead to insights for administrators and admissions offices on university policies.

Career aspirations

My overall goal is to help scholars from Under Represented Minorities have increased access and opportunities within higher education.  I hope to accomplish this through working with student success initiatives at colleges and universities.
