Motivation to pursue a graduate degree

My motivation to pursue a graduate degree stems from my passion for higher education, desire to make a meaningful impact, and commitment to advancing higher education leadership and research. I have witnessed the transformative power of education in shaping individuals' lives and propelling communities forward. Obtaining my doctorate signifies a commitment to lifelong learning and professional development. I aspire to play an active role in shaping education for the next generation of scholars as they embark on their academic journey. The opportunity to influence policy-making and shape educational practices is deeply inspiring.

Importance and/or impact of research and work

Higher education contributes to the advancement of academia and society. Specifically, the research involving higher education helps identify effective learning and teaching practices. Studying factors such as student engagement, success, curriculum, and instructional practices is needed to create academic environments that produce well-rounded students. Higher education fosters safe spaces for scholars to collaborate, exchange ideas, address societal changes, and leverage diverse perspectives.

Career aspirations

My ultimate career goal is to someday assume the esteemed role of a university president. This position encompasses leadership, vision, and commitment to academic advancement. I plan to begin this journey by pursuing a tenure-track faculty position at a college or university. I aim to contribute to the higher education field by gradually enhancing my pedagogical approach, research opportunities, collaboration with colleagues, and mentorship of scholars. I also envision transitioning into administrative roles to assist with cultivating student success and safe learning environments. These experiences will serve as stages of progression on my journey to leading a university.
