Why FSU?

I choose to attend Florida State University for my graduate degree because of the structure of the Master of Fine Arts program. I appreciated that the program was multidisciplinary and encourages mixed media exploration. This program also aligned with my goals as it offered generous opportunities to teach.

Motivation to pursue a graduate degree

I was motivated to pursue a graduate degree because of the opportunities I saw it provide to others in my field and my appreciation for academia. As a metalworker and mixed media artist, having access to a wide variety of tools and guidance was also a considerable motivation.

Importance and/or impact of research and work

My work centers on exploring feminine identity and belonging, especially within the scope of family and heritage. This work is an important contribution towards the continuing journey of engaging biases in society. I'm interested in spurring conversations and considerations of "mixed-ness," femininity, and belonging.

Career aspirations

My goal is to continue my art practice and teach sculpture at the collegiate level. Within teaching, I want to create interdisciplinary curriculum that combines sculpture with intense research objectives. My goal with my art practice is to continue creating work and exhibit my work at museum shows.

Advice for anyone considering graduate school

I think that grad school is such a wonderful investment of time and provides you with a rich community. I would encourage anyone who is considering it to research many different programs and find the one that most aligns with their goals. Graduate school is certainly worth the commitment!

Accomplishments during graduate career

I am grateful to have participated in several art exhibitions in the past two years. Most recently, I participated in the HSF Excellence in Visual Arts Exhibition and received an award for my piece.

What are some of your hobbies?

In my spare time I love to spend time outdoors, skate, and surf. My main passion is art, so my hobbies and academic pursuits often intertwine!
