Motivation to pursue a graduate degree
Florida State University offers a vibrant community for those passionate about language learning and education. Its strong research focus, supportive faculty, and diverse student body create an ideal environment to explore how languages are taught and learned. By studying at FSU, I can develop the skills and insights needed to help more students learn languages better and more effectively.
Importance and/or impact of research and work
I am studying Foreign and Second Language Education at FSU. My research focuses on how artificial intelligence can support language learners—specifically, what motivates them and how technology can enhance that motivation. These topics are important because understanding learners’ motivational processes can help educators design more effective, personalized, and engaging learning experiences. Ultimately, I hope my research contributes to making language learning more accessible and inspiring for students worldwide.
Career aspirations
I aspire to join an R1 university as a faculty researcher, where I can contribute to advancing knowledge in my field. I am particularly interested in conducting innovative research while mentoring students and collaborating with colleagues on interdisciplinary projects.
Advice for anyone considering graduate school
For students considering graduate school, my advice is to clearly understand your research interests and career goals before applying. Seek experiences that strengthen both your academic skills and professional network, and be prepared for the challenges of balancing independence with collaboration. Most importantly, choose a path that genuinely excites and motivates you, as passion is a key driver of success in graduate studies.
Accomplishments during graduate career
I am currently working on several research projects and have presented my work at nationwide conferences. I hope to publish one or more papers by the end of this year or early next year. These experiences have strengthened my research skills and deepened my commitment to advancing the field of language education.
