Why FSU?

I chose the FSU Neuroscience Program because of my mentor, Lisa Eckel, and because of the impactful research that is happening here. I also chose FSU because of the collaborative environment that the faculty create and their genuine investment in their students. Additionally, I enjoy the different organizing and social groups that are in Tallahassee.

Motivation to pursue a graduate degree

During my undergraduate career, I realized that I wanted to be a part of conversations that involved the scientific method in pursuit of novel questions. I found that graduate school values inquiry, problem-solving, critical thinking, and the collaborative pursuit of knowledge in the same way I do.

Importance and/or impact of research and work

My research aims at identifying the biological mechanisms underlying Anorexia Nervosa (AN) and other dysregulated feeding disorders. From molecules to behavior, I am interested in ways to attenuate the phenotype of AN by using Phyto-cannabinoids (THC). My studies have the potential to further our understanding of the behavioral and cellular effects of AN.

Career aspirations

Currently, I am interested in legislative policy and drug scheduling laws. I would like to work with congress to help make policy decisions that are informed by science. Science-based policy is important for building a safe, equitable, and sustainable future.

Advice for anyone considering graduate school

You're not an imposter, you belong here! Everyone in graduate school is smart, and you're included in the EVERYONE. Graduate programs are TRAINING PROGRAMS, so you don't need to know everything :-)

Accomplishments during graduate career

I am a recipient of a competitive Neuroscience Fellowship through my program. I will be presenting at the Cannabis Clinical Outcomes Research Conference (CCORC), for which I received a travel grant and presentation grant. I will also present at Graduate Research Day through the FSU Psychology Department.
