"Push yourself to achieve your dreams"
College: Medicine
Degree: Doctor of Medicine
Why FSU?
I chose to attend FSU for Medical School because of the program's dedication to providing care to underserved communities and the amazing curriculum that allows us to learn directly from attending physicians.
Motivation to pursue a graduate degree
I always wanted to be a physician and help others. However, I also felt a strong desire to serve my country. After serving as an officer in the Navy for seven years, I felt that I had answered the call of duty and started at the College of Medicine to pursue my medical degree.
Importance and/or impact of research and work
Every clinical rotation I have done in medical school helps prepare me to take care of patients in my future career as a physician. Rotating across different medical specialties broadens my knowledge base and improves my ability to connect with and care for patients.
Describe an aspect of your military service that is especially memorable or exceptional
The greatest aspect of my military service will always be the relationships I made. I have amazing lifelong friends and mentors from my time in the Navy.
Tell us how your military service provided skills and experiences that you were able to apply to your graduate studies.
My time in the Navy taught me how to effectively communicate, be a great teammate, and be resilient. I have relied on these skills throughout my time in medical school.
Career aspirations
As a physician, I will strive to always provide exemplary care to my patients, give back to my community, and teach others.
Advice for anyone considering graduate school
Do it. It will be challenging but immensely rewarding. You may accrue some extra loans, but it is only an investment in yourself.
Accomplishments during graduate school
I am most proud of becoming a father during medical school. I also received the E.C. and Tillie Allen College of Medicine Scholarship Endowment and the Dr. Matthew Lee and Stephanie Cruz Lee Scholarship Endowment for Medical Students with Children
