College: Social Sciences and Public Policy
Degree Program: Applied American Politics and Policy
Degree: Master's
Why FSU?
The Masters of Applied American Politics and Policy Program in the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy provided all the opportunities I was looking for. On top of a nationally ranked education and deeply experienced faculty, being right next to the Florida Capitol has allowed me to set my professional career up nicely.
Motivation to pursue a graduate degree
The limitless opportunities that this program provides motivated me to pursue a graduate degree. Also, the flexibility of the program to cater to students working full-time was a huge benefit.
Importance and/or impact of research and work
Although I have not begun any formal research within my graduate program, I am more than confident that the research I complete will be uniquely applicable to any portion of my field that I may contribute to.
Career aspirations
Currently, I plan on working for the state government for the next five years. As of right now, I hold an analyst position within the Executive Office of the Governor. My dream is to one day go to Washington, D.C., and serve Americans every day.
Advice for anyone considering graduate school
Find a niche in your respective field, and then find a program that will supplement that niche educationally. Finding education that is directly applicable to your work will not only help the quality of your work but will also connect you with countless individuals who have experience in that field.
Accomplishments during graduate career
I am proud of being the current executive director of FSU's student government Office of Governmental Affairs the the treasurer for the MAAPP Student Association. I was also named Outstanding Student of the Month for November by the Department of Political Science and was granted Combined Pathways admission into this program before becoming fully matriculated.
