Why FSU?
After my son, Jonah, started his undergraduate degree as a student in FSU’s Honors Program, I fell in love with the university. Pursuing a doctoral degree had been on my radar for several years. Becoming involved in FSU as a parent influenced me to take the leap. FSU has inspired me in many ways, and I have enjoyed meeting people who, like me, want to make positive social changes in their communities.
Importance and/or impact of research and work
By assessing how climate change and related issues are being taught in schools, teachers can counteract misinformation to equip students with accurate and science-based knowledge. By showing the interconnectedness of environmental, social, and economic systems, we can enhance students’ critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills.
Career aspirations
Once my degree is completed, I plan to continue growing my environmental NGO as well as cultivating my skills as a visual artist. In addition, I’d like to use my twenty-plus years of teaching experience to do consulting work for government and school agencies on how to incorporate evidence-based environmental best practices, sustainability, and curricula.
