Why FSU?

From the beginning, I wanted to attend FSU because I was familiar with its programs, and they aligned with my requirements. Additionally, FSU is listed among the top universities, and the Askew School of Public Administration and Policy is ranked in the top ten globally, a distinction my previous institutions lacked. I am thrilled to have continued my education at the university of my choice, and this year of study has confirmed that I made the right decision.

Motivation to pursue a graduate degree

After earning Ph.D. in economics and working in the public sector for several years, I realized that I lacked certain knowledge and skills. My chosen field, program evaluation and policy analysis, was quite specialized and unique in the region where I worked and studied. While being a pioneer in this field was rewarding, it also meant constantly encountering situations where I needed to learn something new, fill professional gaps, and improve my expertise. This drive to bridge those gaps led me to consider further education, a goal that became possible by the support of the Fulbright Program.

Importance and/or impact of research and work

My research addresses the evolving landscape of education amidst rapid technological advancements, specifically the integration of AI. By focusing on ethical challenges in higher education, such as academic integrity, equitable access, privacy concerns, and algorithmic bias, this study provides essential insights into balancing innovation with ethical considerations. The proposed framework for AI governance, including guidelines, literacy programs, and an AI Ethics Board, is particularly significant as it offers practical solutions to ensure responsible AI use in educational settings like Florida State University. This work not only enhances understanding of AI's impact on academia but also guides institutions in fostering an ethical and supportive learning environment for all stakeholders.

Career aspirations

My career aspirations are centered around making a meaningful impact in my field. I am committed to leveraging my education and experiences to contribute positively to society, whether through research, policy implementation, or advocacy. My goal is to address pressing issues and contribute to solutions that improve people's lives and promote sustainability and equity.

Advice for anyone considering graduate school

Take the time to connect with current students and faculty to gain insights into the program's culture, resources, and opportunities for research or practical experience. Additionally, be prepared for the rigors of graduate-level coursework and prioritize time management and self-discipline to succeed in your studies. Dream big, set up your goals, and show your character.

Accomplishments during graduate career

I am thrilled to share that my paper about ethical observation of Artificial Intelligence integration in Higher Education won the prestigious James S. Bowen Professional Ethics Award in the Best MPA paper category from the Askew School of Public Administration and Policy. Additionally, I applied for and was accepted at three different internships for this summer with the World Bank, the United Nations, and the Finance Committee of the Legislature of New Mexico. Ultimately, I accepted the internship with the World Bank and am excited to be living in Washington, D.C., for the summer participating in this internship.
