Why FSU?

My decision to pursue a graduate degree stemmed from a profound interest in advancing scientific knowledge and making significant contributions through research. I have always been passionate about research and mentorship, and graduate school offers the ideal path to develop the expertise necessary to create a lasting impact in academia and beyond. I chose Florida State University because of its strong focus on research, the collaborative atmosphere, and access to faculty whose research closely aligns with my interests. The opportunity to join a lab like the Rokyta Lab, renowned for its research on venom evolution, makes FSU the perfect place to grow as a scientist.

Importance and/or impact of research and work

My research is focused on exploring the application of organoid technology as a tool for studying the regulatory mechanisms of venom gene expression. This work has the potential to unveil novel insights into venom evolution, identify molecular targets for venom neutralization, and improve therapeutic responses to envenomation.

Career aspirations

I aspire to build a career in academia and research where I can contribute to scientific discoveries and mentor the next generation of scientists. My goal is to establish myself in a role that advances research in venom biology, with a focus on translational applications that could improve therapeutic approaches to snakebite envenomation.

Advice for anyone considering graduate school

Graduate school is both challenging and rewarding. Pursue it with a clear sense of purpose, and surround yourself with mentors and peers who support your growth. Remember to balance productivity with self-care.
