"The wide range of opportunities it opens!"
College: Law
Degree: Doctoral
Award: Florida Legislative Fellowship (2024)
Why FSU?
I initially chose FSU because it was the best option financially. However, FSU has proved to be much more than that. The Law School cultivates such a welcoming environment and truly wants to see its students succeed.
Motivation to pursue a graduate degree
Working for the public interest was something I knew I'd always wanted to do, and I saw law school as a way to achieve that goal. I also saw it as an opportunity to expand my knowledge and skillset.
Importance and/or impact of research and work
Although my Florida Legislative Fellowship has not begun, my work will involve researching the bills proposed at the Florida House of Representatives for my designated committee. This work is important because it ensures that the laws passed in our state meet the requirements of the Constitution, previous laws, and other considerations. Knowledge of state laws is vital, as they are often the laws that impact our daily lives the most.
Career aspirations
My goal after law school and the bar is to move to Washington, D.C., and work in either the federal government or international human rights. With the work I want to do, I believe D.C. will provide me with the best opportunities and networks.
Advice for anyone considering graduate school
Since deciding to attend graduate school is a major financial decision, ensure that it is truly something that you want to do and will benefit you in the long-term. Do not simply pursue a graduate degree as a way to delay "real-life."
Accomplishments during graduate career
I have been invited to join the FSU Law Review, became a member of the Jessup Moot Court team, served as a Legislative Fellow, and received a Book Award in Legal Writing & Research I.
