Motivation to pursue a graduate degree
A doctoral degree in clinical psychology provides the expertise to not only be a scientist but also a clinician who helps others through both of these avenues. The decision to pursue this education at FSU was an easy choice given the quality, reputation, and supportive environment of the Psychology department. Additionally, it was evident that this program was a highly collaborative one that seeks to create world class clinical psychologists who can make a difference in our world.
Importance and/or impact of research and work
My research is focused on leveraging technology to better understand and treat internalizing psychopathology (i.e. anxiety, posttraumatic stress, obsessive-compulsive related conditions). Most of my work at FSU has focused on understanding and treating appearance concerns, a core component of multiple psychiatric conditions. I believe this work has potential to make a meaningful differences for others. In a world where physical appearance is often valued more than other qualities, it becomes essential to manage and intervene on excessive concerns about these appearance, given they are associated with a plethora of detrimental outcomes.
Career aspirations
My goal is to pursue an academic research career. I hope to have my own lab where I can mentor students who are as passionate as me in wanting to help others through their work. I hope to make a difference as a scientist, clinician, mentor, and teacher.
Advice for anyone considering graduate school
Don't rush. Take a breath. Take the time to consider your options and find the situation that is best for you that will empower you to be the best version of yourself.
Accomplishments during graduate career
Since joining the clinical psychology program at FSU, i have published dozens of articles in peer reviewed journals, earned a prestigious fellowship from NIH, presented at several conferences within my field, and have established multiple lines of research that I hope to continue to pursue. My most meaningful accomplishment is the publication of a randomized controlled trial of a digital intervention I conducted that was published in one of my field's top journal.
