Why FSU?

After working in campaigns and the Florida Legislature, I knew I wanted to strengthen the policy education side of my experience. I’ve always cared deeply about public service, but I wanted a deeper understanding of how institutions function and how decisions are made at every level. As a proud FSU alumna, continuing my education here felt like the natural next step, given the university’s prestige, powerful alumni network, and presence at the center of state government. The MAAPP program has been the perfect catalyst for my professional growth.

Importance and/or impact of research and work

In graduate school, I focus on how government works in practice and how leadership decisions impact real communities. I am currently developing a policy proposal that examines how Florida can address evolving challenges while maintaining transparency and responsibility. As a Florida Gubernatorial Fellow at the Division of Emergency Management, I help support external affairs projects and statewide initiatives. Being part of that work has reinforced how important preparation, coordination, and communication truly are in public service.

Career aspirations

I want to be part of the generation that helps shape Florida’s future. That means working on initiatives that protect families, improve education, and create real opportunity. I plan to build a career in public service and political strategy where I’m not just observing change, but helping lead it.

Advice for anyone considering graduate school

Be clear about your “why.” Graduate school should only help you on your chosen path, not delay it. Find yourself a good mentor, say yes to responsibility, and take advantage of being in rooms that challenge you. Someone once told me if you want a seat at the table bring your own chair and that has stuck with me throughout all of my professional and scholastic experiences.

Accomplishments during graduate career

During graduate school, I have been honored to be named Outstanding Student of the Month by the FSU Department of Political Science, serve as Vice President of the MAAPP Executive Board, and maintain a perfect academic record throughout my master’s program. I have also had the privilege of serving as a Florida Gubernatorial Fellow at the Florida Division of Emergency Management. The Fellowship is the accomplishment I am most proud of because it represents how far I have come and reflects my dedication to public service. The opportunity to learn directly from state leaders through our weekly roundtables, to grow alongside the incredible individuals in my fellowship class, and to work with the professionals at FDEM has strengthened my commitment to serving Florida with purpose and intention.
