Motivation to pursue graduate studies at FSU

My motivation to pursue a doctoral degree stemmed from a deep curiosity about the intersection of terrorism, security, and policy, and the desire to make a meaningful impact. I chose to stay at Florida State University for all three of my degrees because of its opportunities for hands-on research and the faculty support I received. Their mentorship and guidance played a significant role in my academic growth, making FSU the ideal environment for my graduate studies.

Importance and/or impact of research and work

My research focuses on understanding how societies respond to terrorism, including policies, deradicalization, and disengagement strategies. This work is important for developing more effective ways to address and prevent extremist violence. By exploring emerging threats like Incel violence, I aim to contribute to better policies and solutions that can help make communities safer.

Career aspirations

My career aspirations are to continue researching and teaching in the fields of terrorism, security, and policy. I want to develop practical solutions to address extremist violence while mentoring future scholars and professionals. I want to make a meaningful impact through my work in both research and teaching.

Advice for anyone considering graduate school

My advice for anyone considering graduate school is to stay curious and remain open to exploring new ideas. Be willing to adapt and pivot when necessary, as the journey may take unexpected turns. Embrace challenges, as they often lead to the most rewarding growth, both personally and professionally.

Accomplishments during graduate career

Beyond my research, I am most proud of serving as the Lab Manager for the Disaster Intelligence Analysis Lab, where I have had the opportunity to support students as they discover their own passions. I take great pride in mentoring and supporting the next generation of graduate students, as I believe in the importance of giving back and fostering growth in others.
