Motivation to pursue a graduate degree
I have always loved being in school and having access to new opportunities. What specifically inspired me to pursue a graduate degree is to be able to give back to not only future therapists but also future college students. I believe FSU will allow me to achieve this goal. I chose FSU for not only the amazing faculty but also for the strong sense of community all around campus.
Importance and/or impact of research and work
I hope to conduct research around how to improve family functioning when they have a child or children with a pediatric diagnosis. A lot of the time, the child is the main focus during care and treatment which means the needs and emotional well-being of the other members in the system are neglected. It is important to research this topic to better help the familial dynamics and emotional well-being outcomes for all.
Career aspirations
Once I graduate, I hope to be a licensed marriage and family therapist as well as an AAMFT-approved supervisor. I would also love to be a member of the teaching faculty here at FSU.
Advice for anyone considering graduate school
In considering graduate school, make sure you are interviewing them just as much as they are you. Also reach out to current students in the program to hear about their experiences.
Accomplishments during graduate career
Since I have just started my doctoral program, I have yet to reach any huge milestones within my program. However, I am proud to share that I received the McKnight Doctoral Fellowship. This recognition means a lot, as it not only acknowledges the hard work I have put in to get where I am, but also reflects their belief in my goals I hope to achieve here at FSU.
