Why FSU?
I worked at FSU as a volunteer for one year to make sure that I was interested in this field and this University. When I started working at Dr. Michelle Parvatiyar’s Lab from the College of Health and Human Sciences, I realized that I made the best choice, and I am very happy with my choice. If I could go back again, I would choose the same lab and university.
Motivation to pursue a graduate degree
I wanted to become an expert in my field, which I’m really interested in. I want to know more and more about the heart and its related diseases as a major cause of the death in the world.
Importance and/or impact of research and work
Our lab is focused on how the remodeling of proteins in the cardiac sarcolemma influences cardiac function as well as the development of cardiometabolic disease. Also, we are examining immune signaling and metabolic pathways to have a better understanding of the factors affecting the communication between adipocytes and cells in the heart.
Career aspirations
After my PhD, I plan to do a postdoctoral fellowship to become a competent researcher who can conduct independent research in my area.
Advice for anyone considering graduate school
Do what you love! This advice is what I believe in, and I think it’s the most important thing to have a happy and productive PhD experience.
