Motivation to pursue graduate degree

Making the decision to pursue a graduate degree is not an easy one, for me, there are several reasons why I chose to advance into further education. Most importantly, obtaining a graduate degree will allow me to find many more opportunities in the field of accounting. A master’s degree from the College of Business will enable me to sit for the CPA exam, which is another goal of mine. Lastly, I want to gain more knowledge about the field of taxation. My undergraduate degree did a phenomenal job of introducing me to tax concepts, but I would like to learn more.

Having completed my third internship with Ernst & Young this past summer has reassured me that a graduate degree is essential for my future success in the field. As a recipient of the Ernst & Young Scholarship, I was given the opportunity to work on several international clients this summer and even travel abroad to do international taxation! The most challenging aspect (and my favorite part) of taxation is keeping up with the fast-paced and evolving laws and regulations.

Academic accomplishments

Obtaining a fellowship through the accounting department has been a blessing. I am excited to aid professors and incoming accounting students. I will be assigned a professor whom I will assist in grading, proctoring exams, and hold office hours for any students that have questions. Financially, the fellowship has removed most of my financial burden and will allow me to focus on my studies. I am also a recipient of the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants Walter A. Friedly Memorial Scholarship.

Career aspirations

My future career aspirations include passing the CPA exam, starting full time at Ernst & Young and discovering what field within taxation I enjoy the most!
