Motivation to pursue a graduate degree

I was inspired to pursue a graduate degree to expand my knowledge and develop the skills needed to achieve my personal and career goals. I am especially motivated by my desire to positively impact the field of education in meaningful and lasting ways. I chose Florida State University because it feels like home and offers an environment where I feel supported and motivated to grow. Additionally, the faculty at FSU stand out to me as knowledgeable and approachable mentors who I believe will help guide me toward success.

Importance and/or impact of research and work

I am studying educational psychology with a focus on educators' mental health and well-being. My research specifically examines compassion fatigue and its impact on educators. This work is important because supporting educators' well-being ultimately strengthens the overall quality of education. My program is helping me build a deeper understanding of the field and equipping me with the tools to better support educators and, in turn, improve educational systems as a whole.

Career aspirations

My career goal is to become a professor in the field of education, focusing on researching educator well-being and developing effective support systems. I also aim to help improve pre-service teacher programs so future educators are better prepared and supported from the start

Advice for anyone considering graduate school

I would advise taking the time to thoroughly research programs to find the one that best aligns with your personal and career goals. Choosing a program that fits your interests and provides strong support can make a meaningful difference in your graduate experience.

Accomplishments during graduate career

I am most proud of designing and running two of my own studies investigating educator well-being. This is especially meaningful to me because I am able to see the impact of my work in real time, which is deeply fulfilling given my four years of experience as an educator.
