Why FSU?
I chose FSU because of its academic rigor, research opportunities, and emphasis on connecting scholarship with professional practice. Having earned my master's degree from FSU, I experienced firsthand the value of its faculty mentorship and the intellectual environment that encourages critical inquiry and independent thought. Returning to pursue my doctorate was a natural continuation of my academic journey and my commitment to becoming a more informed, reflective, and effective leader in higher education.
Motivation to pursue a graduate degree
My pursuit of graduate education is rooted in an unwavering curiosity, a commitment to intellectual growth, and a desire to translate knowledge into meaningful change within higher education.
Importance and/or impact of research and work
My doctoral work focuses on examining student engagement with academic support services in higher education, particularly the factors that influence students' decisions to seek or forgo resources designed to support their academic success. Through my research, I aim to better understand the institutional, social, and individual barriers that may prevent students from accessing these services, even when they are readily available. Drawing upon my professional experience in higher education administration, I seek to bridge the gap between institutional policies, resource allocation, and students' lived experiences to inform more equitable and effective practices. Ultimately, my goal is to translate research into actionable strategies that strengthen institutional responsiveness, expand opportunities for student success, and ensure that access to education is accompanied by meaningful access to the support necessary to thrive.
Who has been influential in your graduate journey?
My children and my professional experiences in higher education have been my greatest influences, offering me unique perspectives as a mother guiding her children through their educational journeys, a student navigating my own, and a university professional witnessing institutional challenges firsthand. These intersecting perspectives have strengthened my ability to recognize systemic barriers, identify opportunities for meaningful change, and approach challenges with the conviction that education is foundational to individual growth and societal progress. They inspire me to challenge existing practices, foster collaboration, and help create pathways that empower more students to achieve their academic aspirations and transition successfully into their professional lives.
Career aspirations
My career aspirations center on advancing into executive leadership within higher education, where I can influence institutional policy, strategic planning, and organizational practices that directly shape student experiences and outcomes. Through the integration of research, evidence-based decision-making, and collaborative leadership, I aim to identify systemic barriers, develop sustainable solutions, and strengthen the connection between institutional priorities and student success. Ultimately, I aspire to contribute to a higher education landscape that is more responsive, innovative, and accessible, empowering both students and the professionals who serve them.
Advice for anyone considering graduate school
Approach graduate education with curiosity, intentionality, and a willingness to challenge what you think you know. Recognize that the greatest value of advanced education extends beyond earning a credential; it lies in developing the intellectual capacity to question assumptions, consider diverse perspectives, and apply knowledge to complex, real-world challenges. Seek meaningful connections with faculty and peers, embrace opportunities that stretch your thinking, and remember that intellectual growth is a continuous process rather than a final destination. Above all, pursue knowledge: not simply for what it can help you achieve, but for what it can empower you to contribute.
Accomplishments during graduate career
Among my proudest graduate accomplishments are earning my master's degree from FSU with highest honors, receiving scholarship recognition for my academic achievements, and advancing into a university leadership role while continuing my doctoral education. Particularly meaningful is my progression into higher education leadership, where I can apply the knowledge gained through my graduate studies to influence institutional practices, address complex challenges, and create environments that better support student success. These milestones represent more than personal achievement; they demonstrate the tangible connection between education, professional growth, and the capacity to effect meaningful change.

Hobbies outside academics
In my spare time, I enjoy writing, journaling, solving puzzles, escape rooms, and exploring ideas that challenge my perspectives and deepen my understanding of the world. I particularly appreciate opportunities for reflection, meaningful conversations, and spending quality time with my children and loved ones. My curiosity extends beyond the classroom, and I find fulfillment in continually learning, questioning, and discovering new ways of looking at life.
