Why FSU?

I chose FSU because of the large number of faculty with research in the area of the scientific study of reading in affiliation with the Florida Center for Reading Research.

Motivation to pursue a graduate degree

I wanted to be a part of uncovering some of the many unknowns about dyslexia and reading development.

Importance and impact of research

My research focuses on dyslexia and reading development. The goal of my research is to understand what contributes to reading difficulties and how research can inform screening/identification, prevention, and intervention in reading difficulties. With the large number of children who struggle to learn to read, it is important for us to better understand the reading process and how we can leverage that knowledge to help children struggling with reading difficulties.

Advice for prospective graduate students

It is important to study something that you are passionate about.

Accomplishments during graduate career

I am a 2021 recipient of the P.E.O. Scholar Award and of a National Institutes of Health F31 Grant. In 2017, I was awarded the Legacy Fellowship!

Career aspirations

I aspire to be a professor at a research university.
